Hoy vamos a aprender a usar WISH ! Hip-hip hooray! 

✨ The Golden Rule: usamos wish para hablar de situaciones imaginarias.

 

I wish =If only

 TYPES:

 1st type:

I wish + Past Simple:

(Present: change or improve)

Cuando expresamos un deseo para el presente, es decir, queremos que nuestra situación actual cambie o mejore.Ejemplo:

Sara está viendo un ofertón por el black Friday pero no tiene nada ahorrado. En ese momento ella diría: “I wish/if only I had money”. (Ojalá tuviera dinero)

¡Cuidado! Si en una de estas oraciones necesitas usar el verbo “To Be”, debes usar Were para todas las personas.
“I wish I were taller.” (Ojalá fuera más alta.)

2nd Type

I wish + Past Perfect (had(n’t) + participio):

 (Past: regrets)

Se refiere al pasado. Normalmente se usa para expresar lamento o queja por una acción pasada. Ejemplo:

A Sara no le ha salido bien el examen y desearía haber estudiado más, por lo que diría: “I wish I had studied harder”. (Ojalá hubiese estudiado más.)

 3rd Type:

I wish + would + infinitive:

(Future: hopes/desires)

 

Expresa nuestros deseos, esperanzas para el futuro.. 

Con "I" y "We" normalmente se utiliza could en vez de would.

• I wish we could go to the beach this weekend (=Ojalá pudiéramos ir a la playa este fin de semana)

• I wish I could make him change his mind. (=Ojalá pudiera hacer que cambie de opinión.)

• If only people would stop polluting the ocean! (=Ojalá la gente dejara de contaminar el mar.)

Si el sujeto de wish y el del verbo en la forma base son diferentes, usamos would.

• • • I wish you would listen to Joe. (=Ojalá escuchases a Joe.)

WOULD también se utiliza para expresar una queja en el presente o para desear que alguien cambie su comportamiento en el presente o en el futuro. Tiene una connotación de irritación o enfado. El sujeto del segundo verbo es siempre una persona diferente del locutor (you, he etc.)

• I wish they would stop fighting (=Ojalá dejaran de pelear)

• If only Peter would not drink so much: (=Ojalá Pedro no bebiera tanto)
