Si...
Seguro que has escuchado muchas veces esa frase!!!!
Dear students, I know you love grammar, so... Let's begin!
THEORY
Los conditionals o las if-clauses, expresan una condición y su resultado.
Por lo tanto se componen de dos oraciones: una que expresa la condición (que sería la subordinada) y otra que expresa el resultado( que como ya sabes porque eres un champion de la sintaxis es la oración principal).
If ice-cream gets warm , it melts.
[condition] , [result]
Al igual que en español podemos cambiar el orden de las dos frases sin cambios en el significado y nos quedaría así:
Ice-cream melts if it gets warm.
What's the difference? Can you see it?
TYPES
Hay cuatro tipos de condicionales:
There are two songs on the radio that go...
"If I was your boyfriend, I'd never let you go..."
and "if I were a boy..."
Who is right Beyoncé or Justin Bieber? or both?
Resumiendo...
‘to be’ en la oración condicional, usamos ‘were’ y no ‘was’ para todas las personas del singular y del plural.
Here is a table to help you to visualize the basic conditionals.
Do not take the 50% and 10% too literally. They are just to help you.
probability, conditional |
example | time | |
---|---|---|---|
100% | zero | If you heat ice, it melts. | any |
50% | 1st |
If I win the lottery, I will buy a car. |
future |
10% | 2nd |
If I won the lottery, I would buy a car. | future |
0% | 3rd | If I had won the lottery, I would have bought a car. | past |
